Plural nouns to indicate amount of people, animals and objects.

General rule:

• The plural is usually formed with -s:

          La niña | Las niñas
          El taxi | Los taxis
          El problema | Los problemas
          El sofá | Los sofás
      

USE:

 Plural in -s: 

• Words ending in a vowel:

          
          Perro | Perros 
          Zapato | Zapatos
          Gorro | Gorros
          Pie | Pies
          Vaca | Vacas
          Papá | Papás
          Té | Tés

 Plural in -es: 

• Words ending in a consonant:

          
          Papel | Papeles
          Rey | Reyes
          Tren | Trenes
          País | Países 
          León | Leones
          Animal | Animales 
          Televisión | Televisiones
          Ciudad | Ciudades
          Hotel | Hoteles
          Mujer | Mujeres
          Reloj | Relojes

 Except:   Jersey | Jerséis

• Words ending in -í and -ú:

          
          Esquí | Esquíes
          Bambú | Bambúes

           Except:   Champú | Champús 
                           Menú | Menús

 Special cases: 

• Words ending in -s do not change in their plural form:

          
          El lunes | Los lunes 

          El paraguas | Los paraguas

 Except:   El mes | Los meses 
                 El autobús | Los autobuses

• Words ending in -z form their plural in -ces:

          
          Pez | Peces
          Actriz | Actrices
          Nariz | Narices 

          Luz | Luces
          Lápiz | Lápices

• The masculine form of a noun is used to refer to a group that includes both males and females:

          
          El padre y la madre | Los padres
          El hijo y la hija | Los hijos

          El tío y la tía | Los tíos
          El hermano y la hermana | Los hermanos
          El estudiante y la estudiante | Los estudiantes

          El rey y la reina | Los reyes
          El señor y la señora | Los señores         

• Words that are only used in the plural:

          
          Las tijeras
          Las gafas

• Words that only have a singular form:

          La sed
          El hambre
